TEXTBOOK:
COMPUTER LABORATORY: Bio Sciences Room 4329
COMPUTER SOFTWARE:
- The bookstore sells copies of JMP IN the statistical program used in the computer lab portion of this course. This is an inexpensive student version of JMP, a more pricey statistical package used by many practicing scientists. JMP IN has almost all the capabilities of full JMP (it is missing a few things we will not need, like cluster analysis). JMP IN also comes with a great manual that is a useful teaching aid on its own. Buying JMP IN is not required but will help you a lot.
ASSIGNMENTS:
- One per week
- Copies of answer sheets can be downloaded from the main course page after the submission deadline has passed.
DISTRIBUTION OF MARKS:
- Assignments 15%
- Midterm 30% ** Feb 27, 2002 **
- Lab exam 10%
- Final exam 45%
GRADING PRACTICES:
- Students who fail to hand in an assignment or miss the midterm because of short-term medical, emotional or other problems should contact the instructor as soon as possible. In most cases an alternate exam can be rescheduled. If this is not possible, the missing grade will be determined by the score obtained on the final exam.
- In cases of missing exams and assignments resulting from long-term medical, emotional or other problems, students should request Academic Concession as soon as possible.
- In all other cases, failure to write the midterm exam, lab exam, or to hand in assignments on time will result in a zero grade for the corresponding portion of the mark.
- Students who miss the final examination because of medical, emotional or other problems should follow the procedures for requesting Academic Concession as soon as possible.
A WORD ON CALCULATORS:
- Absolutely essential
- If solar, ensure that yours works under room light conditions (i.e., final exam conditions)
