Ed CheungI am an undergraduate student working at the Roskams Lab at UBC. I participated in the Science One Program in my first year at UBC and will be pursuing a degree in biochemistry and chemistry in the fall.
My research at the Roskams Lab involves looking at the factors that drive the proliferation and differentiation of stem cells and glial cells in the nervous system. I am currently looking at a cell line derived from the olfactory placode that may be glial progenitors. I have been growing these cells in culture and identifying glial markers on them using immunocytochemistry. Looking at glia - and their precursors - will hopefully give us insight on how these support cells guide and support the growth of neurons and other progenitors during regeneration.
I am supported by an undergraduate studentship from the CIHR.
