HELP FOR YOUR LAST LAB REPORT:
EXERCISE #12: KIDNEY FUNCTION

PLEASE DO NOT FORGET TO READ THE REQUIREMENTS ON
"HOW TO WRITE A REGULAR LAB REPORT"....

INTRODUCTION:

The following is only a guideline to write your introduction. Incorporate it in your introduction.

Questions asked in this lab:

What are the effect of drinking beer on the volume and composition of urine?

What are the effect of salt loading on the volume and composition of urine?

MATERIAL AND METHOD

RESULTS

Work on the last year class results..... Do not work on your own group results

Graph

- urine flow against time, (be careful, for the first sample, assume that urine was collected over a period of one hour.)

- specific gravity against time,

- pH against time,

- chloride concentration against time.

How are you going to do it? What do you want to show the reader?

Are you going to give me 16 graphs (1 plot each) or 4 graphs only?

Graph

- total urine volume of urine excreted by the 4 groups after they have drunk their solutions

- total quantity of chloride excreted by the 4 groups after they have drunk their solutions

DISCUSSION (no more than 2 pages)

What are the effects of salt loading on the volume and composition of urine excreted throughout the experiment?

Account for the differences observed among students drinking 500 ml of water, 500 ml of isotonic saline and 500 ml of hypertonic saline. Compare the stresses imposed on the body and the responses of the kidney in each case, bearing in mind the homeostatic mechanisms involved.

Tips: in this experiment, aldosterone contribution to homeostasis is inexistant. In three line tell us why.

What are the effects of beer loading on the volume and composition of urine excreted throughout the experiment?

Tips: Beer contains Lactic acid....
