UNIVERSITY OF GUELPH

MOLECULAR PHYLOGENETICS

Assistant Professor

in the

Department of Zoology

The Department of Zoology at the University of Guelph invites applications for a tenure track position at the Assistant Professor level. The Department seeks the appointment of a molecular phylogeneticist who couples both a strong theoretical background with an ongoing empirical research program. As the Department has a particular commitment to aquatic biology, preference will be given to applicants working on freshwater or marine organisms. The successful applicant will have a strong record of achievement in research and will be expected to develop and sustain an externally funded research program that involves the training of graduate students. Undergraduate teaching responsibilities will focus on molecular evolution and, depending upon the applicant's area of expertise, cell biology, invertebrate zoology or systematics. A PhD and postdoctoral experience are required. The expected starting date is July 1, 2000.

Applications, including a curriculum vitae, and brief (<4 pages) summary of research and teaching interests, as well as copies of up to three papers should be sent to: Dr. Paul Hebert, Chair, Department of Zoology, University of Guelph, Guelph, Ontario, Canada, N1G 2W1. Applicants should also arrange for three letters of reference to be sent by the closing date of August 31, 1999. For additional information on the Department of Zoology see: http://www.uoguelph.ca/zoology.

In accordance with Canadian Immigration requirements, priority will be given to Canadian citizens and permanent residents of Canada. The appointment is subject to final budgetary approval.

The University of Guelph is committed to an employment equity program that includes special measures to achieve diversity among its faculty and staff. We therefore particularly encourage applications from qualified aboriginal Canadians, persons with disabilities, members of visible minorities and women.
