|I studied physics and mathematics at the Friedrich-Schiller University and the Max Planck Institute for Mathematics in the Sciences, in Germany. I obtained my Ph.D. in applied mathematics at the University of British Columbia, Canada, where I also continued as a postdoctoral fellow for two years. I am starting as an Assistant Professor in Biology at the University of Oregon, in 2019. My lab will study the ecology and evolution of Bacteria and Archaea using a combination of field surveys, experiments, modeling and bioinformatics.
