My research seeks to understand the processes that shape plant functional--physiological and morphological--diversity at local, landscape and global scales. I am also interested in the ecosystem scale implications of the functional diversity among plant species. Much empirical work has been on the woody flora of coastal California, but I am currently expanding this to assemble and analyze worldwide datasets.
