INTRODUCTION & OBJECTIVES

Body movement occurs when muscles contract across freely movable joint or synovial joints.

Most muscles are attached to bones in at least two place. When a muscle contracts and its fibers shorten, the moveable bone moves toward the immovable (or toward the less movable) bone. The type of movement depends on the construction of the joint (uniaxial, biaxial or multiaxial) and on the placement of the muscle relative to the joint. The most common types of body movements are described in this lab.
