 HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENTS 

Assignments are due in class on Thursdays. Assignments handed in after class but before Friday at 5PM will receive 90% credit. Assignments handed in by Monday at 5PM will receive 70% credit. Assignments handed in after this point will be corrected but will not receive credit. All assignments (except #2) should be finished individually.

First week of class: Read Chapter 1 of Otto and Day.

Assignment 1: Read Chapter 2 of Otto and Day and answer questions 2.6 and 2.8 (due Thursday September 12).

Assignment 2: Download (due Thursday September 19)

Assignment 3: Read Primer 1 of Otto and Day and answer questions 3.3 and 3.14 (due Thursday September 26).

Assignment 4: Read Sections 5.1 - 5.3 of Otto and Day and answer questions 5.9 and 5.10 (due Thursday October 3).

Assignment 5: Read Chapter 6 and answer problem 6.4 (due Thursday October 10). Prepare for midterm on Tuesday October 15. Here are some review problems to help prepare.

Assignment 6: In preparation for the midterm on THURSDAY, do problem 6.2 (answers available here); more review problems with solutions are available here. Read Primer sections 2.1-2.4, working through the exercises (answers at the back of primer) (due Thursday October 17, nothing to hand in).

Assignment 7: Read Primer sections 2.5-2.9 of Otto and Day, work through exercises as needed to be comfortable with the methods (due Thursday October 24, nothing to hand in).

Assignment 8: Read section 7.4 of Otto and Day and do Problem 9.2 (due Thursday October 31).

Assignment 9: Read sections 9.1 and 9.2 and the Boxes in Chapter 9 and answer the demography question (due Thursday November 7).

Assignment 10: Read pages 294-320 in Chapter 8 (pages 309-316 are optional) of Otto and Day and answer question 8.7 (due Thursday November 14). You should also reread Box 9.2 (because we will see examples of complex eigenvalues). FOR EXTRA CREDIT: Answer question 8.6 as well.

Assignment 11: Complete PART 1 of FINAL PROJECT: Email me your preliminary question and either an illustration (e.g., flow diagram) or preliminary set of equations (due Thursday November 21). Optional reading: Scan through the parts of Primer 3 that aren't familiar to you.

Assignment 12: Hand in FINAL PROJECT: (due Thursday November 28). Optional reading: Scan through the parts of Primer 3 that aren't familiar to you.
