First week of class: Read Chapter 1 of Otto and Day
Assignment 1: Read Chapter 2 of Otto and Day and answer questions 2.6 and 2.7 (due Thursday September 16).
Assignment 2: Download (due Thursday September 23)
Assignment 3: Read Primer 1 of Otto and Day and answer questions 3.3 as well as 3.7 (due Thursday September 30).
Assignment 4: Read Sections 5.1 - 5.3 of Otto and Day and answer questions 5.9 and 5.10 (due Thursday October 7).
Assignment 5: Read Chapter 6 and answer problems 6.2 and 6.4 (due Thursday October 14).
Assignment 6: Prepare for midterm on Thursday October 21. Suggested problems for review.
Assignment 7: Read Primer sections 2.1-2.7 of Otto and Day, work through exercises as needed to be comfortable with the methods (due Thursday October 28, nothing to hand in).
Assignment 8: Download (due Thursday November 4)
Assignment 9: Download (due FRIDAY November 12)
Assignment 10: Read Sections 8.1 and 8.3 (not 8.2) of Otto and Day and answer question 10.5 (due Thursday November 18).
Assignment 11: Read Section 8.2 (Box 8.2 is optional) of Otto and Day and answer question 8.8. Complete PART 1 of FINAL PROJECT: Hand in your preliminary question and either an illustration (e.g., flow diagram) or preliminary set of equations (due Thursday November 25). You should also reread Box 9.2 (because we will see examples of complex eigenvalues).
Assignment 12: Optional reading: Scan through the parts of Primer 3 that aren't familiar to you. Hand in FINAL PROJECT: (due Thursday December 2).
