Scott is a member of the University of British Columbia faculty at the Okanagan campus (UBC Okanagan). Scott, born, raised and educated in Southern Ontario was lured to the west, to live amongst the mountains of British Columbia. With his canoe strapped to the top of his Chevy Blazer, he came out to the Okanagan Valley to join the Biology Department of Okanagan University College in September, 1994. At UBC Okanagan, Scott is currently teaching a first and third year Biology course (BIOL 125: Biology for Science Majors II, BIOL 354/356: Cell Physiology and Vertebrate Physiology).
When Scott is not in the classroom or lab, he may be playing hockey, canoeing, hiking, bicycling or otherwise enjoying the beauty of "Super-Natural" B.C. Scott and Teresa Banka welcomed the arrival of their first child, Emily, to the family in July of 2000. In September, the entire family, including the dog, Maddy, moved to Edmonton so that Scott could enjoy the first half of his sabbatical working with long-time friend, Dr. Greg Goss at the University of Alberta. At U. of A. he also worked with a former OUC student, Guy Hawkings (completed his M.Sc. with Greg), a friend from his days at McMaster, Dr. Fern Galvez (now an assistant professor at LSU in Baton Rouge), Greg's honours students and, last but not least, his gifted and generous research technician, Dawn Keiller. The family returned to Kelowna just before Christmas and had a rather interesting drive through the snowy mountains.
Since then, Scott has continued his work on the physiological impact of molybdenum on freshwater fish (kokanee and rainbow trout), writing manuscripts, preparing grant applications and, in general, just trying to stay out of trouble (some things are easier to do than others!). Scott and Teresa's son, Iain, was born in July of 2002 and their third child and second daugher, Lauren, was born in August of 2004. (I guess he wasn't really successful at staying out of trouble!)
