'Fundulus heteroclitus are found all along the East Coast of North America from Nova Scotia down to Northern Florida. There are two sub-species; the Northern sub-species of killifish exhibit a higher metabolic rate than do the Southern sub-species. They also have a higher thermal tolerance than their Southern counterparts. I am looking at HYBRID killifish to determine if animals with mixed genetic background display the same correlation between metabolic rate and thermal tolerance (as described by the oxygen-limited thermal tolerance hypothesis). I am also investigating the expression level of various metabolically important markers and sequencing these markers in order to create a "hybrid index"
