Field Trip to Camosun Bog / Pacific Spirit Regional Park
Pacific Spirit Regional Park is a large tract of forest on the edge of the UBC campus, and includes Camosun Bog at it's eastern edge. The whole park has experienced considerable human disturbance, largely in the form of logging 50-120 years ago, and also altered drainage and land fill in and around the bog site. We will explore Camosun Bog and some of the drier forest nearby, focusing on the history of the bog and ongoing restoration efforts, and the history of disturbance in the forest. A wealth of information on Camosun Bog can be found at http://www.naturalhistory.bc.ca/CamosunBog/index.htm
We will meet on Saturday 3 March 2007 at 10am at the corner of Camosun St. and W 19th Ave (see map below). This is one entrance to the bog.
