Minimum educational creditials for admission to UBC

(Following are excerpts from the UBC Calendar)

Because of the differences in world educational systems, satisfactory completion of secondary school is not necessarily an acceptable basis for admission to first year. The University of British Columbia reserves the right to determine whether or not a student is eligible for admission and to determine what transfer credit, if any, may be granted.

Applicants presenting appropriate subjects with high academic achievement on the Advanced Level (G.C.E.), Principal Level (H.S.C.), Higher Level (I.B.), or Advanced Placement will, where appropriate, be considered for advanced credit or placement.

International applicants should realize that  financial assistance at the undergraduate level is very limited and opportunities for gainful employment may be severely restricted as a result of immigration regulations.

  • General Certificate of Education (G.C.E.) or General Certificate of Secondary Education (G.C.S.E.). A Certificate with standing in at least five subjects, includes English, with two at the Advanced Level.
  • School Certificate (S.C.). A Division 1 Certificate with standing in at least five different subjects, including English, with two at the Principal Level on the Higher School Certificate (H.S.C.).
  • International Baccalaureate (I.B.). A Diploma with standing in at least six subjects including English, three at the subsidiary level and three at the higher level, with a Diploma awarded.
  • Secondary School Graduation from an accredited high school in the United States of America. Secondary school graduation from an academic program with the required average on academic courses completed in grades 11 and 12. The secondary school subjects must include four years of English and at least three years of Mathematics.
  • Certificate of Matriculation. Applicants who have matriculated at a recognized university may be admitted provided subject prerequisites and academic standing for admission to UBC are met.

Once you have started your studies, consult the Biology Program Guide for program requirements.
